Smol Nambas War Dance, Maskelyne Islands, Vanuatu
Our guide, Phillip, explained that years ago there was a lot of fighting done to secure traditional lands and also because people needed to be protected from cannibalism. This is a kastom war dance. Two of the dancers have foot rattles made from bundles of nuts adding to the rhythmic percussion. Conical masks are made from mud and decorated with feathers.
